Caesarea Maritima
Our first stop was Caesarea Maritime which holds the remnants of a once beautiful port city. The city served as the capital and residence of the Roman Prefect. From AD 26-36 the Prefect was Pontius Pilate where an inscription is found. We explored the ancient amphitheater (see picture collage below) which was built, among, many other buildings by Herod the Great - it's King. The site includes many pieces of different architecture from the Herodian, Roman, Byzantine and Crusader Periods.
